How your personal diamond is created

Your personal diamond takes shape in several stages, from receiving your ashes or hair to cutting, checking and delivering the finished stone. Here is what happens along the way.

Planning a personal diamond order

1. Choose your diamond

We help you select a colour, carat range and cut, and decide whether you would like a loose stone or jewellery. When the order details are agreed, you receive your individual Heart In Diamond order ID.

Material received for a personal diamond

2. Receive and register the material

Your ashes, hair or fur are recorded against your order on arrival. For a standard order we ask for 100 g of cremated ashes or 2 g of hair or fur. If you have less, please speak to us before sending it.

Laboratory preparation of carbon for diamond growth

3. Prepare the carbon

The laboratory analyses the sample and prepares its carbon for diamond growth. The growth foundation may also include additional purified carbon, depending on the material and the diamond selected.

High-pressure high-temperature diamond growth stage

4. Grow the crystal

HPHT equipment creates controlled conditions of high pressure and high temperature in which the diamond crystal grows. Creating the diamond usually takes around 90 days from receipt of suitable material.

Cutting and polishing a grown diamond

5. Cut and polish

Specialists cut and polish the grown crystal according to the agreed option and the usable crystal produced. Each finished diamond is individual in its shade and characteristics.

6. Check and certify

The finished stone is checked and supplied with a Heart In Diamond Certificate of Authenticity and the documents specified for your order. An independent gemmological laboratory report can be requested as an additional option; we will confirm its availability, price and timing.

7. Set your diamond, if you wish

Choose a compatible ring, pendant or other setting, or receive your diamond loose. Jewellery and other selected services can add to the overall schedule.

8. Deliver and keep you informed

We arrange delivery of the completed order and keep you updated on progress. You can also use your order ID on the tracking page.
